Select a Fast Web Hosting Provider

SEO TIPS Select a Fast Web Hosting

You want visitors to your site to have a pleasant experience and to be able to access and share your content easily. So does Google. Google will also reward websites that meet all these criteria with higher rankings.

Your website must load quickly. Internet users don’t like to wait more than 400 milliseconds before a website loads.

What is Web Hosting?

Web hosting allows you to access your website via the internet. Your WordPress website can’t go live without hosting. Web hosting providers manage servers that store websites. Your web hosting provider will connect your site to a user’s computer through a server when a visitor wants to see it.

A host that offers near 100% uptime is also essential. The amount of time that a hosting provider is up and running and, therefore, the time your site remains online. Google and some search engines will penalize your website if it isn’t accessible or down often.

HostGator and InMotion are great hosting providers because they offer fast speeds and almost great uptimes. Also, Bluehost is a good option for WordPress. It’s been rated the #1 WordPress web host and even recommended by WordPress.

Additional Information & Tips:

Test Your Site Performance

Web hosting is just one piece of the giant puzzle that affects site performance. It can be affected by your theme, plugins, or even the size of your images. Open your WordPress console, and then go to tools > Site Health.

This page gives you a score and suggestions for improvements to your website’s security and performance. You may disagree with the recommendations made by this tool in all cases. However, it is okay to ignore them if they are clear and understand their implications.

Next, use Google Pagespeed Insights To test the pages of your website. If you don’t have any unique code, most pages should score the same. Scroll down once the analysis is completed. Opportunities section and see if you can make any improvements.

Use SSL to Secure Your Website

SEO Tips Activate SSL Certificate

In the past, you could only see a small SSL lock icon when shopping online or banking. Nowadays, SSL certificates are available on most websites. This is partly due to greater awareness about online security, but also because of Google. Google is the world’s most used search engine. It ranks SSL encrypted sites higher than non-SSL sites and can even penalize those that do not have it.

Although SSL might seem absurd if you publish recipes for cakes or give tips on car maintenance,

SSL is a way to make your website safer and more secure. SSL certificates are free from Let’s Encrypt. Many web hosts offer automated tools that allow you to add SSL to your site, including integration with Let’s Encrypt.

Protect Your Website

Site security is more than just adding SSL…

Your search ranking could be affected if your site is hacked. Site security starts with a strong password for WordPress login. Also, activate the fail2ban  plugin. This plugin is usually included with a new WordPress installation. This plugin prevents brute-force login attempts. Akismet is another default plugin that stops spam comments from negatively impacting search rankings.

It would be helpful if you also kept WordPress and your plugins updated, delete WordPress themes that you don’t use, and regularly update PHP on your server. Depending on your hosting plan, some critical updates might be handled by your web host automatically.

Check your site hierarchy

SEO can also be affected by how your website is structured. A well-organized homepage should include a clear menu and a list of categories (we’ll get there) that allow you to navigate the site by topic. Then, your posts and static pages will be organized. This is the recommended site structure by Yoast; it is one of the best SEO plugins for WordPress.

Yoast offers both a premium and a free version. It provides lots of SEO assistance, from keyword optimization to internal linking possibilities (more later).

The General Settings are available here.

You will need to organize your WordPress settings in a few key ways. Go to settings > GeneralYou can choose to use www or not in these two places: WordPress AddressAndSite Address. It would help if you had this done, but you can always change it here. It is essential to stick with one format since Google treats www.avocadotoast.com (avocadotoast.com) as two separate sites.

Next, go to settings > ReadingMake sure you have the box marked “Search Engine Visibility” unchecked. This setting is only for people who don’t want search engines to index the sites they own, i.e., This setting is not for you.

Optimize Page Title, Tagline, and Permalinks

Go back to settings > General. Make sure that your site title is clear and descriptive. This will help you to identify the site’s main focus. Your site should have a descriptive tagline that includes keywords that Google can recognize. Your title and tagline will be taken into consideration by search engines when ranking your site. They help to describe your site’s content.

Next, go to settings > PermalinksSelect the name of the post radio button. This will create URLs based on the page titles and blog posts, WordPress defaults to a numeric URL structure. This doesn’t aid SEO as much as descriptive URLs.

Create a solid meta description

A snippet of text is usually displayed under the website title when search results for that site come up. Google will create the snippet for you, but it is better to create it yourself. Installing an SEO WordPress plugin is the best way to do this. Yoast or All-in-One are the best options right now. Both are very popular, and each offers a free version. We’ll be using Yoast as our example in this article.

Make an XML Sitemap

XML Sitemaps can be maps that Google creates in the eXtensible Markup Language (XML). These are text lists that contain all pages, posts, tags, and categories of your website. This format allows Google to find the most important pages on your website quickly.

  • Yoast should have created the XML Site Map automatically if you have already installed it. This can be checked by visiting SEO > GeneralMake sure you have the button on. Sitemaps in XMLIt is scheduled to On.
  • If you don’t want to use Yoast, then try the classic plugin Google XML Sitemaps.

Use Meta Descriptions and Subheadings in Posts

Now that we have established our site’s SEO foundation let’s move on to our daily work with posts. Subheadings like H1, H2, or H3 are essential when organizing posts. These subheadings provide a better structure for your work and make it easier to understand for search engines crawling your site.

For example, in this article, we use H2 for the headings for each of the 15 tips. The introduction at the top uses H1. These headings allow for easier navigation and enable readers to jump to the most relevant sections. It signals to Google about the work and its content.

A title that is relevant to the topic will be engaging for every post.

Finally, create a meta description of each post. Click on the Yoast icon in the post editor interface and then click on the right sidebar. Preview of the Snippet. Fill out the box with your answer meta description.

Optimize posts for keywords

Keywords are the heart of SEO. These words are keywords that directly relate to your site’s content, page, or post. For example, if you write about soccer, your keywords could be “soccer,” football, or the world cup. They also appear in the title of your blog posts, static pages, as well as in the body of your posts. It’s also great practice to use keywords as the anchor text for links in your post.

Keywords are more an art than science. It can be easy to overuse them. If it is done incorrectly, your site could be penalized or appear absurd. Remember that while you want to optimize your Google page, you are writing for humans and not robots.

It is essential to stay on your path. It would be best if you didn’t search for keywords that are not related to your site’s focus. For example, if you sell life insurance, don’t search for popular terms for Spider-Man or Ariana Grande unless they make sense for your site’s goals. You don’t have to be creative or go on a tangent now and again. But you should try to keep your site on the topic as much as possible.

Only one H1 per post

Only the page title or post should contain an H1 heading. This is the most important type of headline you could make. As previously mentioned, everything else should use H2, H3, and H4. Google will use an H1 heading to indicate the page’s focus.

WordPress makes it easy as only the title of the post is automatically set as an H1. Moreover, the standard editing tools do not allow you to create an H1 in the body of a post. However, you can edit your posts as HTML and insert h1>/h1> tags everywhere. This is a terrible idea. Please don’t do it.

Avoid Duplicate Content

A big mistake that can lead to confusion is addressing the same topic or keywords on multiple pages or posts. It is a common belief that targeting the same topic on multiple pages will increase your ranking in search results. It doesn’t. It has the opposite effect.

Keyword cannibalization is essentially a form of competition on a topic. By doing this, you are reducing the authority and quality of your website. Your site will often be pushed down the search engine rankings.

It is better to pick one post and update it as needed. If you have a post entitled “The Best Cake Recipes Ever,” treat it as an “evergreen” article. This means that the topic is always relevant. You can update and rewrite evergreen content. This is a better approach than writing new posts on the same topic.

Get to grips with Categories and Tags.

WordPress allows you to add your posts to categories and using tags to help Google understand and parse your content. It cannot be clear to understand the differences. You will want to use tags for more detail and categories for the main topics of your site.

For example, a blog reviewing books might use categories like Literature, Translations, and Sci-Fi. These tags would include the book’s title, author names, publishing houses, and any other relevant data to that post.

Add links – both internal and external.

There are two types: External links that link to other websites and internal links to your website. SEO can use both types of links. SEO experts recommend limiting external links using no-follow tags. Google will not consider a link that isn’t followed as a positive vote for a third-party website’s reputation.

When possible, link to both internal and external pages. Make sure that the text used for these links is descriptive. This is the best advice you can follow.
